The Global Value Chain Development Report 2023 focuses on building resilient and sustainable global value chains in turbulent times. It explores key topics such as the impact of geopolitical factors on global value chains, and challenges posed by trade tensions during the COVID-19 pandemic.
ZHAO ZHONGXIU President University of International Business and Economics "The development of the global value chain is a complex and crucial issue. The 2023 global value chain development report provides us with important references and insights. We have also observed that China, as an important center of global manufacturing, has played a significant role in promoting trade liberalization and global economic integration, and has been irreplaceable in maintaining global economic stability during the time of crisis."
NGOZI OKONJO-IWEALA Director General, World Trade Organization "We have been arguing for what we call re-globalization, and improved re-imagined globalization that brings in more people and economies that have been struggling on the margins of the global economy. The new report brings together facts and stories that make the case of the continued importance of trade and international supply chains, but also points to ways we can improve them to deliver more effectively for people on the planet."
Despite recent disruptions exposing vulnerabilities in global value chains, the report underscores how international production networks remain a core element of globalization. And, it emphasizes that global value chains remain a key factor in shaping the world economy.
