The Global Value Chain Training Workshop 2025 was held in Beijing

The 2025 Global Value Chain Workshop took place at our university from July 20 to 26. At the opening ceremony on July 21, WTO Deputy Director-General Xiangchen Zhang delivered the opening remarks, while University of International Business and Economics (UIBE) President Zhongxiu Zhao gave the welcome speech.

Xiangchen Zhang spoke highly of the university’s long-term efforts in global value chain research and capacity building. Zhongxiu Zhao reviewed the 11-year development of the workshop, noting that it has become a vital platform connecting academia, policymakers, and international organizations. The opening ceremony was chaired by Siyan Shen, Executive Dean of the Global Value Chain Research Institute.

The keynote speech was chaired by Xiaopeng Yin, Dean of the Global Value Chain Research Institute. From July 21 to 25, distinguished scholars including Shang-Jin Wei (Columbia University), Fernando Parro (University of Rochester), Thiemo Fetzer (University of Warwick), Ernest Liu (Princeton University), Barry Eichengreen (UC Berkeley), Kalina Manova (University College London), Alexandr Kopytov (University of Rochester), Sebastien Miroudot (OECD), Zhi Wang (Distinguished Professor at the Institute), and Bo Meng (Institute of Developing Economies) delivered keynote addresses. On July 25, Guoqiang Long, Deputy Director of the Development Research Center of the State Council, concluded the forum with a keynote speech on geopolitics and global value chain restructuring.

The "Global Value Chain Training Workshop" is hosted by the Global Value Chain Institute of the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE). Launched in 2014, it is the only annual international workshop in China dedicated to the latest topics in value chains, founded by our university. The workshop invites renowned experts and scholars from institutions such as the Development Research Center of the State Council, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Columbia University, and other prestigious universities, international organizations, and think tanks to deliver lectures. Nearly a hundred participants from over twenty universities and research institutions, including Tsinghua University, gathered for the event. During the workshop, all faculty members of the Global Value Chain Institute participated, chairing a total of 26 thematic presentations. With its intensive schedule and cutting-edge topics, the workshop received unanimous praise from both experts and attendees.
